The match was played at Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein, Free State province, South Africa.
With two matches to play at this stage, South Africa top the qualifying group with 19 points.
Nigeria are second on 11 points, level with Benin, who play their game in hand against Lesotho in the day’s late kickoff.
The top team qualifies automatically, while the team in second spot enters the playoff.
